Product reviews: Urban Decay Smoke Out Eye Pencil, Bobbi Brown Eye Brightener, Bobbi Brown Blush in Coral, Milani Crystal Gloss
Urban Decay Smoke Out Eye Pencil. I tried this pencil in "Mary Jane", which is described as a "starry blue". I tried this pencil because I wasn't overly thrilled with the Sue Devitt Eye Intensifier. However, once again, I was disappointed. This pencil's tip felt really hard when applying, which perplexes me, since anything so hard couldn't be easily smudge-able, which sort of is the point, isn't it? The color doesn't go on very bright, so I had to run back and forth over the line several times to achieve any sort of saturated color and, once smudged with the sponge tip, the line faded away to virtually nothing. Not to mention that this color wasn't "starry blue" at all - instead, it was a very dull, gray blue. Not impressed at all.
From Bobbi Brown's new "Living Beauty" collection,
I tried the Eye Brightener and Blush in Coral. The Eye Brightener is great, great stuff. It feels soft, smooth and silky going on and adds a touch of hydration to the undereye area, which can tend to be dry on most people. This stuff is what Benefit Boi-ing should be - it covers dark circles adequately, without going on cakey and without creasing. The Blush in Coral is simply lovely. It has a touch of shimmer, which I always like. It makes the wearer look healthy and happy. Yay! I love Bobbi's blushes and she's hit the ball out of the park again with this one.

Yeah, I know...I just hated her first book so much..and then I read about her backstage work in the book "Color Stories" and how she used completely random products and did whatever she wanted, then turned around and gave an interview saying that she only used her products and that everyone needed her foundation (when she didn't even use foundation on the models!). It just irritated me...even though I know that it's good business sense on her part!
But I will absolutely admit, I'm giving in. I bought the Bridal Palette. It's stunning. I have Pale Pink blush too, but I'm on the fence about it.

I completely understand why you feel the way you do, Marley. That sucks. Still, if we boycott every company or artist that's done or said something shady, we'd be relegated to making our own cosmetics ... LOL! I hope you enjoy the palette!

If you want a soft eye liner pencil, try Stila's. Kajal liner I use it when I want that smokey punk rock look. It comes in about a dozen different colors.
