Betty Draper (January Jones):

January’s character Betty wears NARS Madrague Duo Eyeshadow in almost every scene when she is at home. “It’s a staple,” explains Lana, “but when she goes out, we spice it up with color.” To add emphasis to her eyes, Lana adds NARS Heart Of Glass Eyeshadow. The "Twilight" phenomenon has broken its way into the beauty industry! (Talk to me, Yes'n or no v'n)

*insert eyeroll here*

Anyone who knows me knows how much I love vampires.  As a matter of fact, I love fantasy and fantastical creatures of all kinds, but the creatures of the night - the ones that skulk, that hide, that dwell in the shadows - those are the ones that really tickle my fancy.  So vampires, werewolves, bad elves ...yessir.  Lovement.  However, the vamps of the "Twilight" series.  No, ma'am.  No thank you.  I keep being told that, if I was a teenager, I'd probably love the series.  Not so much, though.  Even when I was a teenager, teenaged romances made me want to barf.  And honestly, the entire "Twilight" thing is like a Harlequin romance for teenaged girls, where the leading man just so happens to be a vampire (and I use that word loosely as homeboy doesn't even drink from people - what's the difference between him and any other carnivore, I ask you?).

Anyway, if you're alive on this planet, there's no way in the world you can get away from all things "Twilight", though I have tried mightily.  Today, it got even worse.

Elisabeth Moss looked stunning on the red carpet last night and as she took stage with her fellow cast members to receive the award for “Best Drama”, for “Mad Men”, the hit series in which she stars. Celebrity makeup artist, Lauren Kaye Cohen shares how she created Elisabeth’s ethereal look:

SKIN: To get Elisabeth’s radiant-looking, flawless skin, I began by using a combination of shu uemura’s Face Architect Smoothing Fluid Foundation and the new Nobara Cream Cover Stick Foundation (in areas that needed more coverage) both in shades 784. I applied both foundations with shu uemura’s Natural 18 Goat Brush. I then dabbed a bit of YSL Teint Parfait Complexion Enhancer in 02 Rose Pearl with my fingertips across the tops of her cheekbones. I finished with shu uemura’s Face Powder in Matte 5yr Light, applying it just to the center of the face with shu’s Natural Brush 27.

EYES: For eye shadow, I used YSL Fard Lumière Aquarésistant Cream Eyeshadow in Pink Sands and Copper Brown and then layered Giorgio Armani Maestro Eye Shadow Quads in 02 Floral and 05 Desert with shu uemura Portable Natural Brush 10. I wanted to keep the eyes very clean and really make them all about the lashes, so I applied Lancôme’s new Ôscillation Powerbooster lash primer followed by Ôscillation Mascara in Black, which looked beautiful!

 

LIPS: For lips, I used shu uemura Lip Drawing Pencil in PK 382 and then combined the Rouge Unlimited OR 531S lipstick with shu’s gorgeous new Rouge Unlimited Supreme Shine lipstick in OR 520. I gave this lipstick to Elisabeth for touch-ups throughout the night.

How to Get Ginnifer’s Red Carpet look:

 

Face

“Ginnifer wore a beautiful, Fuschia strapless dress, so we wanted to keep her look more neutral, but focused on her eyes.  To get her look, I started by applying mark Face Xpert Flawless Touch Makeup in Buff with a foundation brush.  I then applied mark Get Bright Hook Up Highlighter in Light above her cheekbones and mark Good Riddance Hook Up Highlighter in Fair/Light under her eyes.  Once the foundation and creams were applied, I set everything by dusting mark Matte-Nificent in Buff/Natural with a powder brush.  And finally, to give her a warm glow, I swept mark Good Glowing Mosaic Blush in Hush Baby on her cheeks using the blush/bronzer brush.”

 

Eyes

“For her eyes, I started by applying mark Winkstick Hook Up Eyeshadow Stick in Glitzy to her entire eyelid.  Next, I layered mark I-Mark Custom Pick Eyeshadow in Tiki from her lash line to the crease using an eyeshadow brush.  I then blended mark I-Mark Custom Pick Eyeshadow in Espresso into the crease of her eyes using an angled contour eyeshadow brush and smudged Tiki along her bottom lash line using an eyeliner brush.  I finished by applying two coats of mark Make it Big Lash Plumping Mascara in Raven.”

 

Lips

“I completed Ginnifer’s look by layering mark Dew Drenched Moisturlicous Lip Color in Skinny Dip and mark Pro Gloss Lip Plumping Lip Shine in Swell to her lips.”

Hollywood's leading makeup artist Napoleon Perdis achieved Dancing With The Stars' Karina Smirnoff's makeup look for the Primetime Emmy Awards this afternoon, 

channeling a romantic, Fred Astaire period inspiration, with a "Think Pink" pout. Perdis utilized traditional black and white contouring methods and turned to

his Auto Pilot Priming collection to create a flawless look that withstood the 102-degree red carpet and her energetic show performance.

Hotter than Hell Tribute: Patrick Swayze

I was so sad to hear of the passing of Patrick Swayze.  What is it with the deaths of so many icons this year?

I know I'm not the only one who was inspired to dance by "Dirty Dancing."  I have never wanted to "mash potato" so hard in my life.  Every dancing scene in that movie just looks like hot, sweaty good fun.  And I'm not going to even tell you how many times I have watched this movie.  The short answer is: not enough.  I will watch it every single time I catch it on television.  How can I not?

Celebrity fragrances: yes'n or no v'n

So, it seems that Beyoncé is joining the bajillions of other celebs who have decided to put out their own fragrance line (Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey, Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Queen Latifah, Halle Berry, P. Diddy, 50 Cent, just to name a few ...).  I don't know how I feel about that.  Back in the day, I jumped on J.Lo's Glow just like everybody else, but quickly got tired of it when I realized that I was only wearing it because everyone else was.  I actually thought it kind of ... stank.  Now, I find that I instinctively shy away from any fragrance put out by a celebrity.

Hotter than Hell: Matthew Morrison

It's been way too long since I posted a "Hotter than Hell" pick.  Problem is, I'm not finding any dudes that I'm feeling passionate about lately.  I mean, I could write weekly odes to Alexander Skarsgard and Ian Somerhalder, but those would get boring after awhile.  I mean, they'd just go, "Hot.  Hot.  He's hot.  Oh, God, he's so hot.  Look at the fangs.  Look at the eyes.  Look at the abs.  Lovement."  Over and over again.  Ad nauseum.  It would get old.  Though it would be pretty.

Anyhow ... (Alexander in a black tank top) ... moving on!  Imagine my delight to have a new object of affection!

MAC & Mad Men

My favorite beauty brand, MAC, provides make-up to beaucoup movies, theater and TV shows.  Among them is Mad Men, one of my favorite shows and, arguably, one of the best shows on TV.  The subtlety of the acting on that show is nothing short of magnificent.  And the costumes and make-up are to die for!

Hotter than Hell Flashback: Shemar Moore

 

Okay, I guess this isn't too much of a flashback, because, as far as I know, Shemar Moore is still on TV.  (Correct me if I'm wrong.)  But this is a flashback for me because my infatuation with Mr. Moore started many moons ago, when he first hit the screen as Young and Restless' Malcolm.  Mrowr!
