A company representing MAX Factor recently contacted me and asked me to review several of their new products. I was excited to be asked, but a bit wary, since I’ve never been happy with MAX Factor products in the past. But hey, with Pat McGrath at the helm, the line has to be getting better, right? The MAXWear Lipcolor & Gloss Duo is supposed to be MAX Factor’s version of the Cover Girl Outlast – a lipcolor side that “sticks” to your lips for long-lasting color and a gloss side to add shine. I applied the lipcolor side over smooth, dry lips, without lip balm and was instantly like, “No indeed!” It made my lips look chalky and flaky, when they hadn’t been. I immediately removed it, added a thin layer of lip balm, then the lip color and the gloss. Much better. I like the brownish-pink shade and, combined with the white iridescent gloss, it gives a very pretty nude lip effect. I used what I think is the “Split Personality” duo (or maybe “Caramel Icing”) as the tube has no mention of what shade it is – not good. I know the lipcolor has “PermaTone” which is supposed to make it “virtually impervious to food oils” so I decided to bring spaghetti for lunch and put it to the test. “PermaTone” is no match for my husband’s spaghetti – there wasn’t a trace of lipcolor left by the time I finished lunch.
Wow, I just tried it and was really impressed with how well it stayed on. I ate nachos and only had to reapply the gloss afterwards.
I wasn't thrilled with the particular color combo that I tried (Chartreuse Blend) but I was still impressed overall.
